At 55 miles long and 19 miles wide, Great Inagua is said to be the third largest island in The Bahamas. It is made up of two separate islands, Great Inagua and Little Inagua, but since there is only one airstrip in Great Inagua, you would have to go via boat over to it sister island. At the capital, Matthew's Town, they produce salt, and turn out about 1 million pounds of salt a year. This island also has a marina for boats and a hospital. In the center of the island they have a bird sanctuary that houses over 50,000 different species of birds. Tours can be arranged. There are plenty of accommodations on the island, but because tourism is still low, most of the accommodations are small town houses.
