Boating

Either way, when you get to the Bahamas and get a glimpse of the more than 100,000 square miles of stunning turquoise waters, you will not be able to fight the urge to go boating. There are no bridges to connect our islands so you are forced to fall in love with our waters. You can pass over the tongue of the ocean, the great Bahama bank, pass deserted beaches or find random cays waiting to be explored. The Bahamas is a yachtsman’s paradise. The waters are almost always protected by the cays. Depending on the time of the year, you can always seek shelter on either the windward or leeward side of the cays. There are many full service marinas for your convenience or you can just anchor freely and enjoy quiet time with no neighbors. If you’re looking for the best places to go boating, the Exuma Cays, the Abacos and the Berry Islands are some of the most talked about places to visit.
Diving
Shark Dive, Cave Dive, Night Diver, Wreck Dive…. I can go on and on! Do you like to hand feed sharks, explore sunken ship wrecks, or explore the reefs? You will not find a better underwater view than in our pristine waters. The Bahamas is famous for many underwater based movies, including Jaws, James Bond, Into the Blue, Pirates of the Caribbean and Flipper, just to name a few. Not to mention the many tv shows such as Shark Week and Myth Busters that enjoy our locale. Our crystal clear waters attract many under water enthusiasts and rightfully so. There is no sensation like diving ‘the wall’. This is where the ocean floor drops off from a few feet to over a mile deep. You will see an incredible array of fish and marine life as well as an incredible tingling feeling of amazement. Also home based in Nassau is the world famous Stuart Coves dive shop who can take you on any type of dive imaginable, for both the meek and adventurous. Don’t miss out on diving a Bahamian blue hole. These can be found scattered throughout the family islands, with Andros leading the list.
Surfing
Surfs Up! Most surfers don’t think of the Bahamas as a Surfer’s paradise, and for the most part, we are not. However, there are a few places in the Bahamas that bring constant waves for those thrill seekers looking to surf while on holiday. For the consistent big swells, it’s recommended to take a boat outside the barrier reefs. If you choose to go to Abaco, Eleuthera, Cat Island and Rum Cay, you will not find a shortage of suitable waves! Typically, May through July will hold smaller surf, but, should a hurricane pass nearby, you might find that ‘once in a lifetime’ wave. During the winter months, the Bahamas can hold powerful surf, even by Hawaiian standards! So, Surf it up in the Bahamas, and remember that the average ocean temperature is 85 degrees. goes here

Welcome to the Bahamas! We are a group of Tropical Islands located just 50 miles from the east coast of Florida. We are made up of approximately 700 islands and over 100,000 square miles of crystal clear ocean. We are home to many explorers and scientists. There are many caves to explore, blue holes to dive and species of wild life to study. The Bahamas also includes the world’s third largest barrier reef, located east of our largest island, Andros. Andros is believed to be the largest habitat and breeding grounds for wild life in the Bahamas. For those historians, you can boat in the waters west of the bluff of North Bimini andsee beautiful square blocks, perfectly aligned, called the Bimini Road. It is believed that this was part of the road system of the Lost Continent of Atlantis. So, if you’re looking to explore something new, the Bahamas is not just a pretty archipelago to look at, we have many amazing places to explore.

What fisherman doesn’t like the sound of his or her reel peeling away with a large fish on the other end? Well, the Bahamas is home to some of the best fishing in the world. The Bahamas contains many different fishing grounds, and brings many different anglers to test their skills. No matter if your preference is deep water trolling for Mahi, Wahoo and Marlin, or spotting and hooking bonefish in the flats, or hand line fishing for grouper and diving for lobster and conch, the Bahamas has it all. Many anglers come to the Bahamas to seek the two most sought after fish in the sea: the blue marlin and the Bonefish. With so many islands and cays in the family islands, fishermen don’t have to search very far or long to catch fish. The Bahamas is very unique as most of the Cays and islands border the deep blue tongue of the ocean and the sandy Bahama Banks. So, if you prefer deep water trolling, reef fishing, bonefishing or all three, the Bahamian Islands is definitely the destination for you.
